What’s Deep Cleaning, and How Often Should You Do It?
Deep cleaning is a hot subject. It's a crucial aspect of great cleaning practices as it goes the extra mile to make sure your home and office are clean and that regular cleaning maintains a standard level of cleanliness. At TNT Group Janitorial + Building Solutions, we believe in the power of the deep clean (after all, that’s a huge part of our business), so we've compiled a quick guide on the importance of the deep clean and how often you should do it.
What is Deep Cleaning?
Deep cleaning goes a step further than the regular cleaning you do. If regular cleaning is tidying up and removing visible dirt, deep cleaning is sanitizing and cleaning more than things that look dirty or get touched frequently. It's a widespread, in-depth clean that looks at the whole area to ensure it’s been completely cleaned. Deep cleaning usually involves special tools, specialized knowledge, or extra effort (like reaching hard-to-reach places or climbing a ladder).
As an example, let’s look at your bathroom. Regular cleaning might wipe down your countertop, clean your toilet, and clean your shower. Deep cleaning your bathroom could include scrubbing grout, disinfecting wastebaskets, cleaning baseboards and door frames, and disinfecting knobs. These are things that should be cleaned but don’t need to be done weekly like other cleaning tasks.
How Often Should You Deep Clean?
Doing a deep clean is a great general maintenance chore that keeps your home's overall cleanliness and health. It doesn't need to be done often, usually because it covers the parts of your home that don’t get as much attention.
The trick with deep cleaning is to find a schedule that works for you. Some people deep clean their homes once or twice a year. This can fall under spring and fall cleaning, getting your home ready for the hibernating winter months, and cleaning it up after you’ve spent all winter curled in your cave, accumulating dust.
Others deep clean on a seasonal or quarterly basis, taking a weekend to do a really deep clean every 3 months. This is a great schedule for super active houses that will get dirtier faster than the calm and chill homes.
Others prefer what we at TNT Group Janitorial + Building Solutions refer to as the "In-Law Schedule." Also known as, "Honey, your mother is going to be here in 6 hours, and I haven’t scrubbed the grout with a toothbrush yet!” This last-minute deep cleaning for guests might leave you feeling like you’ve considered all the cleaning, but deep cleaning should be done a little more often than that.
How Often Should You Deep Clean an Office?
At TNT Group Janitorial + Building Solutions, we don't only clean homes; we also clean offices. So we must touch on how often you should deep clean an office.
Different offices have different purposes and will therefore have different deep cleaning needs. As a general rule of thumb offices should be deep cleaned at least twice a year. This can include things like:
• Mopping floors and tile grout
• Changing air filters
• Sanitizing all surfaces
• Cleaning upholstery
